Joe Gransden Information
At 42, Joe Gransden created 14 C.D.s under his name and performed worldwide. Gransden's singing voice has been compared to those of Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. Gransden is well known for the hard bop style of his trumpet. Joe began touring as a sideman with Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller's big ensembles soon after graduating high school.
Barry White, The Moody Blues, Kenny Rogers, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, The Whispers, etc., are just a few artists with whom A.F.M. has sideman contracts. He eventually relocated to New York City and worked with various bands, including Toshiko Akiyoshi and Chico O'Farrill, at the renowned Birdland Jazz Club as a substitute. In the meantime, Joe started his band, which played regularly in Brooklyn and featured veteran guitarist Joe Cohn and former Betty Carter bassist Matt Hughes.
Gransden's early inspirations, which include Miles Davis and Kenny Dorham, were evident in his playing during his formative years, similar to many other budding jazz musicians. Joe now performs on the first and third Mondays of each month at Café 290 in Atlanta with his 16 Piece Big Band. The Jazz Corner in Hilton Head, South Carolina, The Ritz-Carlton at Reynolds Plantation with Michael Fienstein, The Museum of Art and Design in midtown Manhattan, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, Georgia, and Tehema Golf Club in Carmel, California, are among other venues with a broader schedule.
