Joseph Lewis Thomas (July 5, 1973) is an American R&B singer. He is professionally known by his stage name, Joe. He was born in Columbus, Georgia. After graduating from Opelika High School, Joe kept busy with odd temporary jobs while continuing to sing and produce songs. In New Jersey, he met producer Vincent Herbert and made a three-song demo tape while working at a gospel record store and pursuing his music studies through a local church.
After signing with Polygram Records in 1992, he released his debut album Everything the following year, catapulting him to fame. In November 2015, Joe made a cover version of Adele's highly popular song "Hello" and published it to the public, who were generally pleased with the result. On November 11, 2016, Joe released his twelfth studio album, My Name Is Joe Thomas, a tribute to his third studio album, My Name Is Joe (2000).
The album brought forth the single "So I Can Have You Back," which became his fourth number-one success on the Adult R&B Songs list and debuted at number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with 17,000 copies sold in the first week. Joe and Ashanti went on a European concert tour to promote the album from February to March 2017.
