Jenny and the Mexicats Information
Jenny and the Mexicats is a multicultural band founded in 2008. The group originated from Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom and was previously known as Pachucos y la Princesa and composed of English trumpeter and singer Jenny Ball, the Mexican brothers Pantera Mexicat on guitar and Icho Mexicat on double bass, and percussionist David González Bernardos. The band's unique style blends flamenco elements, folk, jazz, and cumbia with lyrics both in Spanish and English.
Jenny and the Mexicats are considered independent and have yet to sign any contract with a record company. The band’s associated acts include Juan Solo, Cañaveral, Mr. Kilombo, and Los Ángeles Azules. Jenny and the Mexicats have released five studio albums to date: Jenny and the Mexicats, Ome (album), Mar abierto/Open Sea, Ten Spins Round the Sun (10th Anniversary Album), and most recently, Fiesta Ancestral.
Some of the notable singles released by Jenny and the Mexicats are "Verde más allá," "Me voy a ir," "Flor," "Labios," "Boulevard," "Frenético ritmo," "Me and My Man," and "La diabla." The band has also done collaberations including "Se viene, se va," with Mr. Kilombo (2014) and "Tiene espinas el rosal," with the group Cañaveral (2016).
Jenny and the Mexicats were the winner of Los Guilles 2012 for Best World Music or Musical Hybrid and nominated for Los Premios 40 Principales 2014.
