Jazz Mafia Information
Adam Theis, a trombonist, bassist, composer, arranger, and producer, co-founded Jazz Mafia in the year 2000. The group consists of innovative and skilled musicians from the genres of Electro, Hip Hop, World, Classical, and Jazz. Jazz Mafia has been a mainstay of the classic San Francisco sound for over 20 years. During that time, it has brought together some of the most talented and innovative musicians in the Bay Area, including instrumentalists, singers, MCs, composers, and arrangers.
The group immediately became known for its willingness to work with others and take risks. Its members have collaborated with artists such as Roy Ayers, Lyrics Born, Zion-I, Rebelution, Latyrx, Galactic, Ledesi, Blackalicious, and Jackie Greene. Recently, the group collaborated with The Vau de Vire Society on a large-scale cirque-inspired production called The Soiled Dove, playing to sold-out audiences at the SFJAZZ Center as the house band.
In addition to working with the Oakland Symphony at the Paramount Theatre of the Arts and Grammy-winning composer Mason Bates on his Mercury Soul project at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Jazz Mafia has lately collaborated with several other groups. Jazz Mafia also works with other promoters, like Stanford University and the Oakland Art & Soul Festival, to create unique musical events.
