Iggy Pop, or simply Iggy Pop, is an American rock singer and songwriter noted for his energetic pursuance, raw style, and bold personification. Born James Newell Osterberg Jr. on April 21, 1947, in Michigan, the Stooges frontman became notorious for rock's hard-charging sound and its accompanying swagger as the leader of a band that influenced punk rock from the late 1960s through the early '70s with the hits "I Wanna Be Your Dog," "Search and Destroy" and a string of albums celebrated for their chaotic nature. A living icon of rebellious music, he struck fear into the straights with his wild antics and occasionally unpredictable performances, but unlike his rasping voice, they were so melodic.
When The Stooges split up in the mid-70s, Pop forged a successful solo career with such seminal albums as The Idiot and Lust For Life with David Bowie. For over thirty years, Pop has played with a mix of punk and new wave, jazz and electronica, always playing off the edges and staying true to his contrarian roots.
