Icon for Hire Information
Ariel Bloomer (vocals) and Shawn Jump (guitar) created Icon for Hire in Decatur, Illinois. The two first met in 2007, and after Ariel learned that Jump could play guitar, they began working together musically. Jump found an old acquaintance from the local party scene, Adam Kronshagen, to fill the drum chair when the time came (Jump had been sober for six months by then). Bassist Joshua Davis joined in November of that year, and the band was formally constituted. The band intentionally picked a name that pokes fun at the music business.
At the band's debut performance, friends and relatives showed up and gave them a warm welcome. Over the next two years, the band released two EPs and toured extensively across the Midwest under the moniker Icon for Hire (2008's self-titled EP) and The Grey (2009's The Grey EP). In the same year, Davis also parted ways with the group.
