I Mother Earth Information
IME, or I Mother Earth, is an ensemble hailing from Canada. The band started up in 1990, and by the late '90s, they had achieved the pinnacle of their success. The ensemble got back together in 2012 after being separated for eight years. I Mother Earth ranked in the top 40 best-selling Canadian bands and 150 best-selling Canadian acts between 1996 and 2016. In 1990, Christian and Jagori Tanna, brothers who play drums and guitar, respectively, encountered Edwin, a singer, at the rehearsal space they all used.
In 1991, after Edwin had asked the brothers to join his band, the three of them got together and brought in Franz Masini to perform bass. They initially called themselves IME (which stands for "I Am Me"), but then they thought the letters should mean something. I Mother Earth was a moniker that came up spontaneously, and Jag Tanna has always maintained that it has no significance. The band performed only thirteen performances over a year, despite having a professionally recorded demo of five songs.
These were famous for their open mic night jam events, poetry readings, and live mural painting. By year's end, the band was the subject of intense competition between record companies. I, Mother Earth, inked a joint venture contract with Capitol Records (USA) and EMI Music Canada (Canada) in 1992. In 1992, the band went to Los Angeles to record their debut album with Mike Clink, a longtime producer for Guns N' Roses.
