This Honolulu-based four has been making waves since its 2001 debut when it immediately rose to prominence as one of Hawaii's most captivating and innovative jazz ensembles. The eclectic sound of John Kolivas on bass, Tim Tsukiyama on saxophones, Dan Del Negro on piano, and Adam Baron on drums represents not only a determined and natural next step in Hawaii's great post-bop jazz tradition but also a reflection of the members' wide range of skills and interests.
These four performers, known as the Honolulu Jazz Quartet, have performed in the jazz tradition as sidemen with many notable figures in the jazz world. With experience as music professors and sidemen in symphony orchestras, on Broadway, and with touring companies of musical theaters, the members of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet bring their listeners a vibrant and original fusion of sounds.
John Kolivas, bandleader, composer, and bassist, was born on the Hawaiian island of Oahu in 1961. Kolivas has spent the past 25 years as a professional acoustic bassist. During that time, he has shared the stage with countless notable jazz musicians, including Larry Coryell, Makoto Ozone, John Pizzarelli, Don Grusin, George Benson, Robin Eubanks, Eric Marienthal, Keola Beamer, and many more.
