Harry Manx Information
Canadian artist Harry Manx (born 1955) fuses blues, folk, and Hindustani classical styles. Blending Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, some gospel, and enticing grooves give Manx's music its distinctive "Mississippi flavor," as his website describes. Manx is a multi-instrumentalist who can play the slide guitar, harmonica, six-string banjo, mohan veena, and Ellis stomp box.
For five years, he was Vishwa Mohan Bhatt's student in India. Manx's signature instrument is the 20-stringed mohan veena, which Bhatt invented. He runs his own record company, Dog My Cats Records, and has released twelve albums in that time. Aside from the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Solo Artist in 2005 and the "Great Canadian Blues Award" from CBC Radio in 2007, he has won numerous other honors, including seven Maple Blues honors and six Juno nominations.
Manx's rendition of "I'm on Fire" by Bruce Springsteen was nominated for an Independent Music Award at this year's ceremony. Manx has worked with Kevin Breit, a Canadian guitarist, and Clayton Doley, an Australian keyboardist, for quite some time.
