Gza Information
Gary Eldridge Grice (GZA) (August 22, 1966) is an American songwriter and rapper. He was born in Brooklyn, New York City. While visiting block parties as a young child in the early 1970s, Gary Grice became interested in hip-hop. In addition to breakdancing, he was also a graffiti artist and disc jockey. He showed early promise as a writer after immersing himself in the study of nursery rhymes and Mother Goose. He was listening to The Last Poets in 1974–1976 before relocating from Staten Island to Brooklyn. Still, he was more drawn to the band's profanity than its actual content, and it wasn't until much later that he began to grasp the album's deeper meanings.
He owes a lot of his early development, notably in terms of vocal inflection and phrasing, to The Last Poets and the music of the Isley Brothers, the Commodores, and the O'Jays. Later, he shifted his musical focus to hip-hop and R&B artists like Secret Weapon, Grandmaster Flash, and the Furious Five. Grice left school in the ninth grade in 1982. In 1992, GZA became a member of RZA's nine-member organization, the Wu-Tang Clan.
On Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1993), the group's debut album, GZA, had many notable cameos, including a solo cut titled "Clan in da Front." The fact that he also appeared on albums by his fellow Clan members, such as Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version (1995) and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... (1995), helped to boost his profile even more.
