Jesus Moreno, Tyon "Nabs," Emanuel "Manny," and Pablo "Pabliizzi" are all first-generation Mexican-Americans who formed a band to fuse elements of regional Mexican music, corridos tumbados, and American drill. It is a hyper-realistic subgenre of trap pioneered in Chicago by artists like Chief Keef and popularized almost ten years later by the late, great Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke.
We've only been a unit for a little over a year. In that brief time, their music has been heard approximately 40 million times on Spotify, and the music video, "En El Refuego," has been viewed more than 30 million times on YouTube. The band's popularity continues to soar, and they are now playing to sold-out crowds from the West Coast to Texas (to the point that they are considering beefing up security for trips to the mall).
Manuel, the group's co-founder and guitarist, states that he and the other members of the band were exposed to "old school" corridos and other regional Mexican music by their parents. But they also liked American trap, hip hop, and nu-metal acts that the streaming generation can easily access.
