Global Citizen Festival Information
Since its inception in 2012, the Global Poverty Project has hosted the annual Global Citizen event, a music event focusing on alleviating poverty. Ryan Gall and Hugh Evans are its founders. The branding on the stage at Austin City Limits inspired Gall, who wanted to see charity branding take its place. Chris Martin, lead singer for the band Coldplay, was named curator of the festival for the next 15 years in 2015.
The effects of the epidemic made it necessary to postpone the 2020 event. One World: Together at Home, a concert benefiting the World Health Organization hosted by Global Citizen, took place. It was broadcast live throughout the world.
Events in Lagos, Seoul, Paris, New York City, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, London, Mumbai, and Sydney all happened at the same time on September 25 and 26, 2021. Metallica, Charlie Puth, the Jonas Brothers, Mneskin, Mariah Carey, Mickey Guyton, and Rosala headlined the main 2022 festival, which took place on September 24 at Central Park's Great Lawn in New York City and was hosted by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
The main 2023 festival took place on September 23 at Central Park's Great Lawn in New York City, with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Jung Kook, Anitta, Conan Gray, D-Nice, Sofia Carson, and Stray Kids headlining.
