Glen Hansard Information
Glen James Hansard (April 21, 1970) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. He has been the lead man of the Irish rock band The Frames since 1990; he has recorded six studio albums, four of which have top 10 Irish Album Charts ranking. 2006 saw Hansard's first musical release separate from The Frames.
Although the Swell Season has been an unqualified success, the demand for Glen Hansard tickets surged even further with the release of the smash hit movie Once. Once even won Hansard an Academy Award in the same year when the song "Falling Slowly" took "Best Original Song." Once received another Grammy for "Best Musical Theater Album" a few years later in 2013, since at that point it had been turned into a blockbuster Broadway production.
2022 saw him touring with Eddie Vedder. Recording "Take Heart" in October, he included Marketa Irglova, Bono, and Ukrainian refugees in reaction to the Russian Invasion of Ukraine. Hansard sang "Fairytale of New York" in December 2023 alongside Lisa O'Neill, backed by The Pogues, at Shane MacGowan's burial ceremony held at St Mary's of the Rosary Catholic Church, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, Ireland. They performed MacGowan's 1987 original hit track as well as the late Kirsty MacColl's.
