Marie Ulven Ringheim (February 1999) is a Norwegian indie-pop songwriter and singer. She is professionally known as Girl in Red. Ringheim was born in Horten, Norway, and received her first guitar as a gift at Christmas in 2012. She always gives credit to her grandfather for awakening her interest in music. She learned guitar, piano, and music production while sitting in her bedroom.
Ringheim planned to study music after she began writing and releasing Norwegian music. Until then, she was still not thinking she would become a professional musician. In 2015, her father gave her a Blue Yeti microphone. Ringheim started writing and releasing Norwegian music on SoundCloud under the name “Lydia X.” She acquired a stage name, “Girl in Red,” after being identified in a crowd by a friend. She also released her debut single after receiving her new moniker. The single is entitled “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend.” It was released on SoundCloud in 2016 and, within five months, the song got around 5 thousand streams.
Ringheim released other singles, “Girls” and “Summer Depression” in 2018, which brought her massive success and gained millions of streams and views online. She won her first award in early 2019, presented by “Norwegian Newcomer of the Year” during GAFFA Awards. Her other singles include Dramatic Lil Bitch, Say Anything, She Was the Girl in Red, 4 am, We Fell in Love with October, Watch You Sleep, and Dead Girl in the Pool.
