Gina Chavez Information
Gina Chavez (May 24, 1982) is an American bilingual Latin-folk singer as well as a songwriter. Her music is defined as pop-rock, Latin rock, and Música Latina. She has been performing since 2004 and released her first recording in 2007. Her parents are of Mexican and Swiss-German descent. Her father, Gene Chavez, is a second-generation Mexican-American from the southside of San Antonio, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin at the age of 18. As a young girl, her musical interests included Little Richard, Lyle Lovett, and Michael Jackson.
Chavez is famous for holding a unique style of mixing the content of her music with visuals. She is an eight-time Austin Music Award winner and was named Austin Musician of the Year in 2015. Chavez music style is defined as traversings of cumbia, bossa, reggaeton, vintage pop, and folk flawlessly combined with sharp social commentary and dynamic vocals according to a review by Sonicbids.
Chavez's debut solo was an independent album entitled Hanging Spoons, which was released on January 1, 2007. On December 6, 2014, she released Gina Chavez Live at the Music Club that contained five more tracks released under The Good Music Club.
Some of her other notable albums are Up.Rooted (Album; 2014) and In-a-Gadda-da-Vida (Album). She won many awards throughout her career, including 2013 & 2018 Best Austin Musician (Female vocalist), 2014-2019 Best Performing Bands (Latin), 2014 Best Musician of the Year, and 2012 Best Performing Bands.
