Get Up Kids Information
The Get Up Kids is an American rock band based in Kansas City, Missouri. The band was formed in 1995. The current lineup consists of Ryan Pope (drums and percussion), Rob Pop (bass and backing vocals), Jim Suptic (lead guitar and backing vocals), and Matt Pryor (lead vocals and rhythm guitar). The Get Up Kids was a major player of the Midwest emo scene in the mid-1990s. They were also known as the “second wave” of emo music. The band started gaining attention and started touring with the bands such as Weezer and Green Day. They became headliners themselves. The band also embarked on international tours of Europe and Japan.
The Get Up Kids also founded an imprint of the indie rock label Vagrant Records called Heroes & Villains Records. The imprint soon started releasing albums for the band. It also helped as a launching pad for many side-projects, including the Full Effect, The New Amsterdams, and Reggie.
The Get Up Kids signed a record deal with Doghouse. They went to Chicago and started recording their debut full-length album and producer Bob Weston. It took them only two days to record the album. The band went on their first national tour after two months of recording the album with Ethel Meserve and Braid.
The album, Four Minute Mile, was released a few months later. It brought great attention from labels, fans, and critics. On their 1998 tour of Europe, the Get Up Kids were invited to join Braid. That tour helped them build a rapid overseas fanbase.
