Gaelic Storm Information

Gaelic Storm is a Celtic band formed in 1996 in Santa Monica, California. Their discography features original compositions in the Celtic and Celtic rock styles and arrangements of classic Irish and Scottish melodies. The band's big break came in 1997 when they were cast in Titanic, with songs featured on the film's soundtrack CD.

Patrick Murphy and Steve Wehmeyer formed Gaelic Storm while performing at Murphy's Santa Monica, California, O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant. They played the band alongside Steve Twigger, Shep Lonsdale (on drums), Samantha Hunt (on fiddle), and Brian Walsh (Uillean pipes). The result was a year of frequent appearances at local spots.

The band's lineup changed often between 2002 and 2006. After their third album, "Tree," second violinist Kathleen Keane and drummer Shep Lonsdale quit the band, leaving just founding members Murphy, Wehmeyer, and Twigger.

After its first release on July 25, 2006, the band's sixth studio album, Bring Yer Wellies, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart, No. 16 on the Internet Album Sales chart, and peaked at No. 31 on the Independent Albums chart. Just what is the Rumpus? by Gaelic Storm was released on the band's Lost Again Records label on July 8, 2008. It hit the first spot on the Billboard World Chart.

In addition to Murphy and Twigger, the band includes Ryan Lacey since 2003, Pete Purvis (from Merrickville, Ontario) since 2005, and Natalya Kay since 2022.
