Zapp, Cameo, the SOS Band, and Midnight Starr will be among the stellar bands performing at this year's Funk N Soul Fest. The Fest also features performances from Steve Arrington, Club Nouveau, DJ Cazel, and Con Funk Shun.
Zapp is an Ohio band that formed in Dayton in 1977. The band's use of the talk box made them famous. They made their first album, titled, in 1980 and have since produced six more albums in addition to a greatest hits collection.
Cameo, a funk band formed in 1974, was formerly known as the New York City Players but changed its name after discovering that another band was using the same identity. The band is widely regarded as one of the best funk acts of their era, and they scored numerous R&B singles. 2019 they dropped the song "El Passo" as a single.
Short for "Sounds of Success," the Atlanta-based band's 1980s singles included "Take Your Time (Do It Right)," "Just Be Good To Me," and "The Finest." Midnight Starr began at Kentucky State University back in 1976. No Parking on the Dance Floor, published in 1983, was their best-selling album.
