Femi Kuti Information
Femi Kuti (June 16, 1962) is a Nigerian musician. He was born in London, England. In the late '80s, he formed his band, Positive Force, with Fela Anikulapo Kuti's former keyboard player, Dele Sosimi (Gbedu Resurrection). In 1988, he began his international career when he was invited to perform at the Festival d'Angoulême (France), the New Morning Club in Paris, and the Moers Festival in Germany by the French Cultural Centre in Lagos and Christian Mousset. On his 2001 album Fight to Win, Femi teamed up with many US artists like Common, Mos Def, and Jaguar Wright.
Femi's rendition of "Water No Get Enemy," his father's iconic song, was included on Red Hot & Riot, a tribute CD to Fela Kuti produced in 2002 by the Red Hot Organization and MCA. The CD's revenues went to organizations that promote HIV testing and treatment. At the same time, Femi's tune was made in conjunction with hip-hop and R&B musicians like D'Angelo, Macy Gray, The Soultronics, Nile Rodgers, and Roy Hargrove.
In Grand Theft Auto IV, Femi Kuti provides his voice for the character of IF 99's radio DJ. As of 2013, Femi has been nominated for a Grammy in the global music category four times (2003, 2010, 2012, and 2013).
