Fareed Haque Information
Fareed Haque (1963) is an American jazz guitarist. He was born in 1963 in Chicago. He traveled almost all over the world with his parents as a child, including Iran, Spain, and France. Haque received a guitar scholarship from North Texas State University. He studied jazz guitar there and left after a year to learn classical guitar at Northwestern University. He was introduced to Sting in the late 1980s. At the time, Sting had recently founded its record label named Pangaea.
Haque recorded two albums for the record label, Pangaea, including Manresa and Voices Rising. He also recorded Majestad that’s an unreleased album for Warner Bros. Records. The album included Carlos Vega, Michael Landau, Russell Ferrante, Lenny Castro, and John Patitucci. He then signed a record deal with Blue Note Records. He released the solo albums such as Déjà vu, Opaque, and Sacred Addiction. Haque also recorded three albums with legendary Javon Jackson.
Haque has shared stages with Cassandra Wilson, Herbie Mann, Bob James, Joe Henderson, and Joey Calderazzo. Haque also founded Garaj Mahal in 2001. It was a jam band that played a mixture of funk, jazz, and rock. The band toured the United States for ten years around. The band also won an Independent Music Award in 2007.
Haque’s records include Macedonian Blues with Goran Ivanovic (2001), “Cosmic Hug” (2005), Flat Planet (2008), Trance Hypothesis (2013), Out of Nowhere with Billy Hart and George Mraz (2013), and IndoBalkan with Goran Ivanovic (2020). His associated acts include The Flat Earth Ensemble, MathGames, and Summit.
