Evita Information
Evita is a musical which was presented by Lloyd Webber and the conductor Anthony Bowles at the second Sydmonton Festival before they made the actual recording with the help of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Evita is a book by Tim Rice, who also wrote the lyrics for the musical. It revolves around the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón. She was the second wife of Argentine President Juan Perón. The musical story is about the early life of the lady relevant to her rise to power, charity work, and eventual death.
Evita was initiated as a rock opera concept album and was released in 1976. Its massive success led it to the productions in London's West End in 1978 and therefore won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical. When it traveled to Broadway, Evita turned out to be the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical. The opera was also adopted into a film in 1996. It was revived in London in 2006, whereas in 2012 on Broadway.
The main roles included in Evita are Eva Perón (mezzo-soprano): Lead, Che (tenor): Lead, Juan Perón (baritone): Lead, Agustin Magaldi (tenor): Supporting, Perón's Mistress (mezzo-soprano): Supporting, and Chorus (men, women, and children of Argentina). The music in Evita is of Classic genre, along with an eclectic range of styles.
Evita debuted at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. The Broadway production opened at the Broadway Theatre on September 25, 1979, Australian production at the Adelaide Festival Theatre on April 30, 1980, Spanish version premiered at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid on December 23, 1980, in Mexico City at the Teatro Ferrocarrilero on June 26, 1981, and Italian production of Evita premiered in Sanremo (IM) on December 5, 2013.
Evita did many tours across the world, including the 1987 UK and Irish Tour, 1989 World Tour, 1995–1996 UK Tour, 2017/2018 International Tour, 2018 Australian Tour, and many more. The musical earned several Original London production awards and even more nominations for 2006 West End revival, 2012 Broadway revival, and a few more.
