Ericdoa hails from a "small ass farm village" in Connecticut, which isn't renowned for its creative culture. He didn't find many peers like him at school, so he spent much time online, interacting with people on sites like Discord and Twitter. Eric was raised in a musical household and thus was introduced to "raw pop artists" like Rick James, Earth Wind & Fire, and Teena Marie.
Incorporating these styles into his own when he began creating music at age 14, Eric taught himself to record and produce his material. After releasing his first full-length album, Public Target, in 2020 from his closet, Eric gained a small but dedicated following on SoundCloud. Following the project's launch, the online community started to spread, with several of Eric's friends and collaborators gaining their followings.
Skepticism surrounded the birth of hyper pop, as with any SoundCloud-born trend, with many wondering what it was, how long the kids creating it would last, and why the music sounded the way it did. However, with continued music releases from Eric and his pals, their popularity skyrocketed, culminating with Eric's COA project in the late 2020s.
