Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton were significant influences on him. A professional band called Mariani was his first when he was fifteen. Later, he started the jazz-rock group Electromagnets. Johnson's big break came with the release of Ah Via Musicom in 1990. It had the Grammy-winning instrumental song "Cliffs of Dover." He has played rock, blues, jazz fusion, and country music throughout his career, solidifying his status as one of the best guitarists in the world.
