Eric Darius Information
Eric Darius (December 3, 1982) is an American vocalist, saxophonist, producer, songwriter, and educator from Livingston, New Jersey. The music of Darius is defined as jazz, pop, contemporary jazz, smooth jazz, and R&B. Darius also spent time in Tampa, Florida as a child, and his family is said to be very musical. Darius attended the Howard W. Blake High School of the Performing Arts, and later, the University of South Florida in Tampa. In his youth, he listened to Earth, Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Al Green, Grover Washington, Jr., George Benson, Bob Marley, and a few more. He fell in love with the sound of saxophone at the age of nine.
Darius began his performing career when he was only eleven. He joined and toured with Youngest Jazz Band by Sonny LaRosa and America. This band consisted of kids from the ages of five to twelve and toured worldwide. Darius also performed with the group at Montreux Jazz Festival and decided to pursue a career in music. At 13, he started playing in Tampa Bay with his band and would perform over 100 shows per year as a teenager.
Night on the Town was the debut album by Darius, released in 2004 by Higher Octave. The album reached number 32 on the jazz albums chart at Billboard magazine. Some of his other notable albums are Just Getting Started that peaked at number 18 (2006), On a Mission at 10 (Shanachie, 2010), Goin' All Out at 14 (2008), Retro Forward at 15 (2014), and Breakin' Thru at 19 (2018).
