Empire Strikes Brass is an American brass-funk-rock band based in Asheville, North Carolina, founded in 2012. Since then, it has grown from being a party band of friends who played New Orleans originated and inspired funk tunes to the second-line ensemble with elements of jam and rock. The group now consists of a polished collective of producers, players, songwriters, and singers who strive to find an original sound that fuses the band’s musical influences.
Paul Juhl is the founder and saxophonist of ESB, who put together talented characters with rich musical backgrounds. The horn players on the band include Debrissa McKinny (Sax), Kyle Snuffer (trombone/sax), Alex Bradley (trumpet), and JP Furnas (bass, trombone, and tuba).
Whenever the ESB comes together to perform, their sound is undeniably solid and strong. The group recorded its debut album entitled “Theme For A Celebration” at Echo Mountain Recording Studio in Asheville. The album was released in 2017 and tapped as one of the year’s top 100 releases by WNCW 88.7 radio. They released another hit album in 2019 entitled “Brassterpiece Theatre,” recorded at the same previous studio. A few other notable singles by ESB include “I’ll Fly Away,” “Things You Expect,” “Fat Flat 4”, “The Knocker,” “and Allz Em.”
