Eliane Elias Information
Eliane Elias (March 19, 1960) is a Brazilian singer, arranger, pianist, and composer. Her hometown is Sao Paulo. She began studying piano when she was seven, and by the age of twelve, she was copying jazz players' solos. She began teaching piano at fifteen and performing with Brazilian singer-songwriter Toquinho and poet Vinicius de Moraes.
Elias went to New York City in 1981 to study at The Juilliard School of Music. She joined the Steps Ahead group a year later. Elias acquired a deal with EMI Classics in 1993 to record classical music, which was published on the album On the Classical Side.
Elias sang "Samba Triste" in Calle 54, a documentary film by Spanish director Fernando Trueba, in 2001. She recorded The Lost Days in 2002 with Denyce Graves, for whom she wrote the song "HaabiaTupi." Elias signed with RCA/Bluebird in 2002, and Kissed by Nature was released. Dreamer won the Gold Disc Award and was selected as Best Vocal Album in Japan when it was released in 2004.
Her 2019 album Love Stories was the best-selling Latin jazz album on Amazon.com, the best-selling Brazilian jazz album on Amazon.com, and the second-best-selling orchestral album on Amazon.com. She won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2021 for her album Mirror, Mirror, which she made alongside Chick Corea and Chucho Valdès.
