Drive By Truckers Information
The Drive-By Truckers are Southern rock/alternative country band formed in Athens, Georgia. The current members of the band are Patterson Hood (guitarist and vocalist), Brad "EZB" Morgan (drummer), Mike Cooley (guitarist), Matt Patton (bassist), and Jay Gonzalez (vocalist & guitarist). Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley created the band in 1996 and had played in many bands, including Adam's House Cat. Later on, they started a new band, Horsepussy, with Adam Howell and Aaron Bryant.
In 1998, Drive-By Truckers released their first album entitled “Gangstabilly.” They released their second album, Pizza Deliverance, in 1999. Their famous third studio album “Southern Rock Opera” was released in 2001. After that, they continued to release the best albums of their times, including Decoration Day, The Dirty South, A Blessing, and a Curse, Brighter Than Creation's Dark, The Big To-Do, Go-Go Boots, English Oceans, American Band, and The Unraveling.
On June 14, 2009, Drive-By Truckers performed with Jones as "Booker T and the DBTs" at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Some of the band’s famous singles are Bulldozers and Dirt/Nine Bullets, Aftermath USA, Self-Destructive Zones, The Righteous Path, Sometimes Late At Night (EP), Made Up English Oceans, What It Means, Never Gonna Change, and A Blessing and a Curse.
Over the years, Drive-By Truckers have toured with many singers and vocalists including Jyl Freed (2000), Kelly Hogan (2000), Amy Pike (2000), Anne Richmond Boston (2000), Scott Danborn (2003), Clay Leverett (2003), and Adam Courson (2013).
In 2009, Drive-By Truckers recorded an album “Potato Hole” with Booker T. Jones that won the Best Pop Instrumental Album award at the 52nd Grammy Awards on January 31, 2010. The band has also received other awards, including All Music Best of 2016 for the album “American Band” and Favorite Americana Albums for “English Oceans.”
