Dosh Information
Martin Chavez Dosh (September 6, 1972) is an American multi-instrumentalist. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dosh is primarily a percussionist, though he frequently employs a Rhodes piano and electronic devices like samplers and looping pedals to expand his sonic palette. His live solo performances on keyboards, tuned percussion, and drums have earned him the label of experimental/electronica thanks to the signal-altering equipment he employs. Dosh frequently works with other musicians, both as a leader and a sideman, on recordings and live performances.
Dosh was an East Coast session musician who worked with several groups throughout the '90s. His return to Minneapolis in 1997 coincided with the beginning of his original music composition, which prompted him to form a band. At his old mater, Lake Country School, he did a little bit of everything: taught percussion, drove the school bus, and helped out in the classroom.
Dosh gained valuable expertise before starting a solo career by collaborating with Andrew Broder in Lateduster and Fog. Dosh's self-titled debut album was published in 2002. He had done most of the recording in his cellar. A devoted fanbase for the album emerged in the Twin Cities area. After numerous successful performances, he was ranked #2 on City Pages' annual "selected to click" list. In 2003, Anticon issued a worldwide re-release of Dosh.
