Donovan Woods is a Canadian country and folk singer and songwriter. He was born in Sarnia, Ontario. Woods started writing songs and playing guitar while he was in his teenage years. He released his debut album in 2007 entitled, The Hold Up. In 2010, he came up with his second album, The Widowmaker. In 2013, Woods released his third album in a row entitled, Don’t Get Too Grand. The third album earned Woods his first nomination in Juno Awards for Roots & Traditional Album of the Years: Solo.
On February 26, 2016, Woods released his fourth studio album, Hard Settle, Ain’t Troubled. The album was shortlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize. Woods also won the award for English Songwriter of the Year at the 12th Canadian Folk Music Awards. The album was also nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year.
On April 20, 2018, Woods released his fifth full-length album, Both Ways. The album won the Juno Awards for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year in 2019. Other studio albums released by Woods include The Other Way (May 3, 2019), Without People (November 6, 2020), and Without People (Deluxe) (March 26, 2021). His notable singles are “That Hotel,” “Portland, Maine,” “All Mine,” “The Worst Day,” “Way Way Back,” “While All The While,” and “IOWA.”
