Dog Fashion Disco is a heavy metal band founded in 1995 that originated from Rockville, Maryland. The band was initially active from 1995 to 2007 when they disbanded before officially reunited in 2013. The music of the group is defined as Avant-garde metal, groove metal, alternative metal, and progressive metal. It has been said that the lyrics by the group are often highly esoteric and satirical. The sound of the Dog Fashion Disco is frequently compared to that of Mr. Bungle, the Northern California genre-defying act. The current lineup of the band includes Todd Smith — vocals; Jasan Stepp — guitars; Brian "Wendy" White — bass guitar; Tim Swanson — keyboards; John Ensminger — drums; and Matt Rippetoe — saxophones and woodwinds.
The group members themselves have cited their collective influences as being Clutch, Tool, System of a Down, Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Faith No More), and Frank Zappa. Erotic Massage was the first album by the band that was released independently in 1997. The second self-released album was released in 1998 entitled Experiments In Alchemy. It was followed by The Embryo's In Bloom 1998, Anarchists of Good Taste 2001, Committed to a Bright Future 2003, Sweet Nothings 2014, and Committed to a Bright Future 2019.
Dog Fashion Disco also released a compilation album named Beating a "Dead Horse to Death... Again" and a live album "The City Is Alive Tonight...Live in Baltimore."
