Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a comedy musical based on the film of the same name. The music was written by David Yazbek, while the book on which the musical is based was written by Jeffrey Lane (counter-based on the 1988 film). Dirty Rotten Scoundrels first premiered in 2005 on Broadway, running for 626 performances. The musical produced many international productions and tours. The musical was called the “best musical to hit Sydney this century” in 2013 by the Sydney Morning Herald.
On September 22, 2004, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was premiered in San Diego, California, before premiering on Broadway in January 2005. On August 4, 2006, a North American national Equity tour was launched of the musical, which ended on August 19, 2007. The international productions for the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels have been staged in Plzen, Tampere, Stockholm, Oslo, Seoul, Stuttgart, Mexico City, and Tokyo. When the musical opened in Sydney, Australia, on October 24, 2013, it featured Katrina Retallick, Anne Wood, Amy Lehpamer, Matt Hetherington, John Wood, and Tony Sheldon.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels have won several awards and has received many nominations. In 2005, the musical won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
