Diana Krall Information
Diana Jean Krall OC OBC (November 16, 1964) is a contralto vocalist and jazz pianist from Canada. With almost six million records sold in the US alone, her total global album sales exceed fifteen million. She was one of the most successful musicians of her period, and on December 11, 2009, Billboard magazine awarded her the second greatest jazz performer of the decade (2000-2009).
To this day, no jazz vocalist has had more than Krall's eight albums debut atop the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. She has 8 Junos and 3 Grammys under her belt. Her album collection includes seven multi-platinum, nine gold, and three platinum albums.
In 1992, Krall began working with Justin Time Records on what would later be released in 1993 as her debut album, Stepping Out. John Clayton, the bassist, and Jeff Hamilton, the drummer, were with her. Tommy LiPuma, who produced her 1995 album Only Trust Your Heart, noticed it.
Her sixteenth studio album, This Dream of You, was released in September 2020. The album was titled after Krall's performance of Bob Dylan's song "This Dream of You" from his 2009 album Together Through Life. The 12 songs on the CD were chosen from more than 30 that Krall had previously recorded with her longtime producer, Tommy LiPuma, before he passed away in 2017.
New York Cares is the biggest volunteer group in New York City, established in 1987. A music video was made for the jazz standard "Autumn in New York" to help raise awareness for the cause. Krall finished producing the album herself in May 2020.
