Del Amitri Information
Del Amitri is a Scottish alternative rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Kris Dollimore, Ash Soan, Andy Alston, Iain Harvie, and Justin Currie. Currie explained in 2018 that the name "Del Amitri" is a misspelling of the name of a film producer who appeared in the end credits of a movie he saw in 1979. Del Amitri signed with Chrysalis Records in 1984, and their self-titled debut album was released the following year, in 1985.
Del Amitri's lineup shifted as they began recording their second album. Currie and Harvie replaced guitarist Bryan Tolland and drummer Paul Tyagi with keyboardist Andy Alston and dismissed both. Mick Slaven took over for Tolland in the studio, and Stephen Irvine of The Commotions stepped in for Tyagi. Although Slaven and Irvine had the option to become permanent members of the band, they ultimately decided against doing so.
The 1995 edition of Twisted reached No. 3 on the UK charts. Ash Soan became a permanent band member in 1995 after traveling with them on drums beginning in 1994; nevertheless, Chris Sharrock performed drums on the album. For a time when British performers were having trouble breaking through in the US, the single "Roll to Me," which only reached No. 22 in the UK, made it into the Top 10 in the US.
