Deborah Cox (July 13, 1974) is a Canadian singer, actress, record producer, and songwriter. She was born in Toronto, Ontario. At the age of 12, Cox debuted in television advertisements. Later, as a teenager, she competed in several talent competitions before landing a job as Celine Dion's backup singer. Cox moved to the US in 1994, and Clive Davis signed her to Arista Records. ?Following that, she released a debut album of the same name.
One Wish, her second studio album, achieved platinum certification in the US in 1998. The pop crossover hit "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," which would become her most successful entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaked at number two and spent eight weeks there, serving as a year's marker. Cox partnered with J Records to release The Morning After, her third studio album, in 2002. The album was somewhat successful commercially.
In the 2000s, Cox began acting, making her screen debut in the Canadian drama Love Come Down (2000) and her stage debut in the Broadway musical Aida (2004). Since then, she has made appearances in lesser movies and several musical plays, such as the musical adaptations of The Bodyguard, Josephine, the biographical musical and the horror film Jekyll & Hyde. The Promise (2008) and Destination Moon (2007), Cox's most recent studio albums, were distributed by her independent record company, Deco Recording Group. For three decades, her tune "Let the World Be Ours Tonight" rose to the top of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in 2017, becoming her 13th such success.
