For the album AIRE LATINO, David Russell won the GRAMMY for Best Instrumental Soloist in Classical Music. Presented with an Honorary Doctor of Music degree in 2014 from the University of Arizona in Tucson and received a 2018 Hall of Fame induction from the Guitar Foundation of America. Audiences and journalists alike have heaped the greatest acclaim on classical guitarist David Russell for his creative artistry and exceptional skill. His exceptional talent and extensive international career were acknowledged in 1997 when he was made a Fellow of London's Royal Academy of Music.
The town of Es Migjorn in Minorca, where he was born and raised, awarded the tremendous distinction of making him an "adopted son" in May 2003. "Avinguda David Russell" was later named after him by the town. The Conservatory of the Balearics awarded him the Medal of Honor in November 2003. The town of Nigrán in Spain, where he lives, presented him with the silver medal of the town in a touching ceremony after he won the Grammy award.
David Russell went on to win the Julian Bream Guitar Prize twice as a student at the Royal Academy. He went on to win multiple international contests, such as the Andrés Segovia, José Ramírez, and the esteemed Francisco Tárrega championships in Spain.
