David Gonzalez Information
Dr. David Gonzalez is a well-known award-winning musician, storyteller, poet, educator, and actor. He was nominated for a 2006 Drama Desk Award for the category of The Frog Bride presented at Broadway’s New Victory Theater. Dr. David Gonzalez is beloved by many college students, corporate leaders, and young people due to his passion for storytelling and life lessons. He is often invited by big companies such as JP Morgan Chase and Proctor and Gamble to deliver his powerful speeches.
David Gonzalez has created many productions that include the most notable and critically acclaimed ¡Sofrito! Double Crossed (commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution), MytholoJazz, As If The Past Were Listening, Finding North, The Secret of the Ceiba Tree, and City of Dreams. He also wrote Rise for Freedom! for the Cincinnati Opera and Mariel, an Afro-Cuban musical. It won the “Macy’s New Play Prize for Young Audiences.”
Poetry by Mr. Gonzalez was featured in Bill Moyers’ documentary Fooling with Words on PBS, as well as All Things Considered by NPR. He also hosted the New York Kids on WNYC for eight seasons. David Gonzalez has made over 3000 appearances at colleges, schools, businesses, as well as at many of the prestigious performing arts centers nationally and internationally. He earned his doctorate from New York University’s School of Education, where he worked as a teacher for ten years. In 2006, David Gonzalez even climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro.
