Dave Weckl Information
Dave Weckl (January 8, 1960) is one of the popular American Jazz fusion drummers. He is also the leader of the Dave Weckl Band. In 2000, Dave was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. He started playing drums at the age of 8 in his spare room. From his spare room, Dave shifted himself to the living room. Sometimes he used to play drums with his father while he played piano alone.
Weckl completed his education from the University of Bridgeport. After his University, Dave began his professional career starting on the New York fusion scene. At the beginning of his career in the music industry, Weckl started working with famous artists such as George Benson, Paul Simon, Michel Camilo, Anthony Jackson, and Robert Plant. From 1985-1991, he was a part of the Chick Corea Electric Band.
Dave Weckl has also appeared as part of Corea’s Akoustic Band while he was in the Chick Corea Elektric Band. He often appeared with GRP All-Star Big Band. Weckl has also released some instructional videotapes. As a leader, he recorded his first project in 1990, for GRP, called “Master Plan” later “Heads Up” in 1992 and “Hard-Wired” in 1994.
Weckl left the Corea’s band and began touring and recording with guitarist Mike Stern. He has released several albums with his band among which, some of the top ones are; Rhythm of the Soul (1998), Synergy (1999), Transition (2000), The Zone (2001), Perpetual Motion (2002), Live (2003), and Multiplicity (2005).
