Curtis Salgado Information
Curtis Salgado (February 4, 1964) is an American blue-eyed soul singer and songwriter. He was born in Everett, Washington. Salgado began his career as the head coach of The Nighthawks in Eugene, Oregon. He later formed The Robert Cray Band with Robert Cray, singing and playing harmonica for six years, including singing on Cray's debut album, released in 1980. In 1982, Salgado and Cray split up. From 1984 through 1986, Salgado fronted Roomful of Blues, singing and traveling with them. In 1991, he created Curtis Salgado & The Stilettos on the JRS label after returning to Oregon.
Salgado and Portland guitarist Terry Robb toured with Miller in 1997 to promote their album Hit It 'n Quit It. This included a performance by Salgado and Robb on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where they performed their original piece, "Bitter Tears." In 1999, he joined Shanachie Records and recorded four albums until joining Alligator Records in Chicago in 2012.
In 2013, Salgado was named B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Soul Blues Male Artist, and Soul Shot was named Soul Blues Album of the Year at the Blues Music Awards. Salgado was nominated for a Blues Music Award in four categories in 2013. Salgado won three Blues Music Awards in 2017 in various categories.
