Combo Chimbita is an American band. The current lineup consists of Dilem Astronauta (drums), Prince of Queens (bass, synthesizers), Niño Lento es Fuego (guitar), and Carolina Oliveros (vocals, guacharaca). Combo Chimbita is a creative union that defies time and nationality. They carry the fiery torch of an unbroken, insubmissive people throughout Abya Yala, unshackling their essence from the horrors of invasion, as self-described Abya-yalistas seeking meaning beyond a Latin American framework. "Music is a vehicle of connection beyond time, place, and generations," Prince of Queens explains, echoing the visual metamorphosis for single "Memoria" and Combo Chimbita's decolonial skin-shedding.
Combo Chimbita's musical mission, however, is not solely spiritual. In Oliveros' songwriting, the tracks "Yo Me Lo Merezco" and "Lo Que Es Mo, Es Mo" emanate a whole different kind of divine feminine strength and radical self-love. She says, "Those songs are from me to myself." "They're gifts I chose to give to myself as a reminder that we deserve to appreciate the achievements we've worked so hard for."
