Cody Canada Information
Cody Jay Canada (May 25, 1976) is an American alt-country/rock musician best known as the lead singer and guitarist of The Departed. Canada was born in Pampa, Texas, and started acquiring a taste for music after attending George Strait’s concert with his parents as a child. The following day, Canada asked his parents for a guitar. He began playing guitar at eight years old. Soon his family moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, when he was still a teen.
Canada formed Cross Canadian Ragweed in 1994 with fellow musicians Randy Ragsdale (percussion), Grady Cross (guitar), and Matt Weidemann (bass). The group was formed in Yukon, Oklahoma, and later moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. The band broke up in late 2010 due to some tension within the group.
Canada continued hustling for his music career after the breakup of Cross Canadian Ragweed. Soon he formed a new band along with Plato in 2011. The band was initially called Cody Canada & the Departed. The group released its debut album in June 2011 entitled “This Is Indian Land,” which consisted of covers written by Oklahoma songwriters. The band eventually became The Departed only and released its first original album on November 13, 2012, entitled “Adventus.”
Cody Canada started his solo career, and on November 13, 2015, he released his debut solo two-disc, 35-track album with Mike McClure. The album entitled Chip and Ray, Together Again for the First Time, was recorded in Port Aransas, Texas.
