Cocoa Tea Information
Calvin George Scott (September 3, 1959), better known as Cocoa Tea, is a Jamaican reggae singer, DJ, and songwriter. His origins take us back to Hayes, Clarendon, where Cocoa Tea gained popularity in 1985, and he has claimed worldwide demand since the 1990s. "Rikers Island" is said to be one of his famous songs that were later put into a ragga version by Nardo Ranks, "Me No Like Rikers Island." The track was featured on Dancehall Reggaespanol and released the same year as the original track by Cocoa Tea.
"Young Lover" was another hit track by Cocoa Tea. Additionally, in March of 2008, he gained notable fame after releasing a song entitled "Barack Obama." The track was released in support of the US Presidential candidate. Another song by him entitled "Jah Made Them That Way" that was included in his 1984 album Rocking Dolly interpolates Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" and Dillinger's "Answer Mi Question."
In 2003, Cocoa Tea initiated a New Year's Eve event Dancehall Jam Jam that would run every year until 2009. He has worked with many top reggae labels, including Greensleeves Records, VP Records, and Ras Records though he now has his label, Roaring Lion, since 2000. Some of his notable albums are Weh Dem A Go Do... Can't Stop Cocoa Tea (1984), Settle Down (1985), The Marshall (1985), Authorized (1991), and Can't Live So (1994).
