Coco Montoya Information
Coco Montoya (October 2, 1951) is an American singer, blues guitarist, and former John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers member. In the middle of the '70s, Montoya's career started when Albert Collins requested him to join his band as a drummer. Collins mentored Montoya and showed him how to play the guitar in his signature "icy hot" manner. Although Montoya had quit Collins' band, the two remained close friends. John Mayall first heard Montoya play guitar in a Los Angeles pub in the early 1980s. Soon after, Mayall requested Montoya to join the restored Bluesbreakers. He stayed with the group for a decade.
Upon the Cate Brothers' return to the music scene in 1995, he appeared on their album Radioland. Montoya has released other solo albums since that time. He contributed his rendition of "Pills" to the 2002 Bo Diddley tribute album Hey Bo Diddley - A Tribute! In 2019, he released Coming In Hot, named a "Favorite Blues Album" by AllMusic. Montoya is left-handed, although he uses a guitar with a right-handed neck. Montoya tied the knot with his longtime sweetheart Lenora in 2009. Both Jasmin and Donna, his daughters, are beautiful.
