China Crisis Information

China Crisis is an English new wave and synth-pop band. The current lineup of the group consists of Eddie Lundon and Gary Daly. They started making music in the 1980s after purchasing a keyboard and drum machine, and electronic groups like Orchestral Manoeuvres heavily influenced their sound in the Dark (OMD) and Depeche Mode. With the addition of Dave Reilly on drums and percussion, the band became China Crisis. In 1981, they released their first song, "African and White," through the independent record label Inevitable.

Initially, the band primarily focused on studio recording, with occasional public performances. They played with Haircut One Hundred at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts on December 31, 1981. In November of 1982, the band's debut studio album, Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms, Some People Think It's Fun to Entertain, was released after they signed a recording deal with Virgin Records.

In August of 1982, "African and White" was re-released, and it peaked at No. 45 on the UK Singles Chart. The band performed in the Philippines again in July 2017 at the Kia Theatre with support from Peter Coyle of the Lotus Eaters, another Liverpool band. Daly's Luna Landings, a collection of instrumental recordings between 1981 and 1987, was released in February 2020 as a solo studio album.
