Chick Corea Information
Armando Anthony “Chick” Corea (June 12, 1941) is an American composer and jazz electric/pianist keyboardist. He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Armando’s father introduced him to the piano when he was just four. At a very young age, he was surrounded by jazz that influenced him much as well as his professional influencers who made him decide to pursue his career in the same field. This includes Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Young, Bud Powell, and Horace Silver.
Corea explored music on his own and kept developing his piano skills. At the age of eight, he started taking piano classes from the notable pianist Salvatore Sullo. He also introduced Corea to classical music. Corea started his professional musical career in the early 1960s with Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, Blue Mitchell, Willie Bobo, and Mongo Santamaria. His debut album was released in 1966 entitled “Tones for Joan’s Bones.” Corea released a trio album two years later after his debut album came out. He recorded the album with Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes and gave it a title name “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs.”
Corea frequently processed the output of his electric with a ring modulator, which is a special device. He has appeared on multiple Davis albums such as Miles Davis at Fillmore: Live at the Fillmore East and Black Beauty Live at the Fillmore West.
Chick Corea has released plenty of studio albums so far including The Song of Singing (1970), My Spanish Heart (1976), Secret Agent (1978), Friends (1978), Lyric Suite for Sextet (1983), The Chick Corea Elektric Band (1986), and several other albums including a few of the live albums as well.
