Caribbean Festival Information
The Toronto Caribbean Carnival, previously known as Caribana, celebrates Caribbean culture and traditions throughout the summer in Toronto. It is a pan-Caribbean Carnival event, and it has been touted as North America's largest street carnival.
More than 1.3 million people attend the festival's final procession each year, and the entire attendance exceeds 2 million people. The parade is held over the Simcoe Day long weekend, which falls on the first weekend in August. The multiple-week celebrations begin in July and lead up to the parade. Simcoe Day falls on the first weekend in August.
The event falls on August 1, also known as Emancipation Day, for individuals in the United States and the Caribbean starting in 1800—the holiday overlaps with the festival. The Toronto Mas' Bands Association, the Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes, and the Ontario Steelpan Association are the three organizations most important to the events.
