Brendan Bayliss Information
Brendan Bayliss (August 11, 1976) is an American musician and founder. He was born in South Bend, Indiana. Bayliss called his band Umphrey's McGee after a distant relative named Humphries McGee, whom he met at a wedding in 1997. "The kid of my paternal aunt's sister's son," Bayliss explains. Simply put, he's a good person. I imagine that they are a farmer. As a member of the band's writing staff, Bayliss is crucial.
After graduating from St. Joseph's High School (South Bend, Indiana), Bayliss studied at Notre Dame, where his father, Bob Bayliss, was the men's tennis coach. There, he met bassist Ryan Stasik and keyboardist Gregg Andrulis, with whom he later founded the Star Wars–inspired band Tashi Station. Umphrey's McGee was formed in the autumn of 1997 when founding members Bayliss and Stasik teamed up with fellow alums Joel Cummins and Mike Mirro of another recently disbanded local band, Stomper Bob.
While the rest of Umphrey's McGee support VOX Classic Plus amps and Morley pedals, Bayliss plays Paul Reed Smith guitars and Mesa/Boogie and Oldfield amps. Since the summer of 2006, Bayliss and musician Jeff Austin (formerly of Yonder Mountain String Band) have collaborated on a few shows and, as of May 11, 2010, published a studio album under the moniker 30db. It was released in the spring of 2010 under the name One Man Show, and the ensemble supported it with a tour.
