Braxton Brothers Information
Nelson (bass) and Wayne (sax) Braxton, twin brothers from San Francisco, formed a smooth jazz combo when they joined the fourth-grade band. Nelson and Wayne were regulars in the California All-State Honor Band as seniors in high school. At the same time, Wayne attended Cal State Northridge and became a member of the school's renowned Jazz A Band; Nelson attended San Francisco State University to study tuba before touring Europe with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Later, the brothers reconnected at SF State, where they played in a jazz quartet and were each named to the Disney All-American College Band. Nelson went on tour with Najee, and Wayne collaborated with Sheila E. before forming the Braxton Brothers and releasing their debut album, Steppin' Out, 1996, on the independent Kokopelli label. The album was later reissued by Windham Hill and produced the Top 40 hit "When Love Comes Around." In 1999, Now and Forever was released.
