Blood Red Shoes is an English alternative rock duo. The band Blood Red Shoes was founded in late 2004 when Steven Ansell and Laura-Mary Carter agreed to "have a jam" after the dissolution of their respective bands, Cat on Form and Lady Muck. In a Berlin interview, Carter said that the band was named after a scene from a musical starring Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire in which Rogers' intense preparation for a role caused her to bleed all over a pair of white dancing shoes.
After releasing "Victory for the Magpie" on Try Harder Records on July 18, 2005, Blood Red Shoes followed it up with the double A-side "Stitch Me Back / Meet Me at Eight," and "ADHD" in 2006, as well as "You Bring Me Down" on Drowned in Sound / Abeano/XL the following year. After more than three hundred performances across the UK, the band was signed to V2 in April 2007. Since then, they have released the singles "It's Getting Boring by the Sea" and "I Wish I Was Someone Better," as well as the singles compilation album I'll Be Your Eyes.
The band was one of four to play the NME New Music Tour in 2007, alongside the Little Ones, Pull Tiger Tail and the Rumble Strips, and they were included on both days of the 2007 Camden Crawl, playing the Purple Turtle and the Earl of Camden. The band performed at several festivals over the summer of 2007, including T in the Park, the first-ever Underage Festival, and Electric Gardens. In addition, they were huge fans of many different bands and showed their love by supporting them.
