Billy Cobham's Crosswinds Project Information
Billy Cobham, or William Emanuel Cobham Jr., was born on May 16, 1944, in Colon, Panama, and is a well-known jazz drummer. Before joining the Mahavishnu Orchestra, he gained notoriety as Miles Davis' drummer.
Both the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame have inducted him as one of the greatest drummers ever. Before he was the band's frontman, he was a sideman. Danny Carey of Tool, Phil Collins, and Bill Bruford of King Crimson are just a few of the many musicians he has impacted in the jazz, progressive, blues, and mainstream rock and pop genres.
In 1973, he released Spectrum, his debut album as a bandleader. Four tunes on his 1974 album Crosswinds were written by Cobham. The CD features tracks that span from moderate to slow tempos.
Cobham assembled the Crosswinds Project as a touring band to play music from his 1970s catalog, including the album Crosswinds. Cobham's band includes keyboardist Scott Tibbs, bassist Tim Landers, guitarist Mark Whitfield, and bassoonist/saxophonist Paul Hanson.
