Bikini Kill Information
Bikini Kill is one of the American punk rock bands based in Olympia, Washington. The band was formed in 1990 and follows Punk rock, riot grrrl, and alternative rock genres. Bikini Kill is stated to be the alternative rock. It was popular for its radical feminist lyrics accompanied by fiery performances. The band’s music is characteristically abrasive as well as hardcore-influenced. The current band members are Kathleen Hanna (singer and songwriter), Kathi Wilcox (bassist), Tobi Vail (drummer), and Erica Dawn Lyle. Billy Karren is a past member of Bikini Kill.
Bikini Kill is famous for writing songs regarding females and encouraging the female-centric environment at their shows. Hanna, one of the band members, is also famous for diving into the fan crowd and kicking out male hecklers. Revolution Girl Style Now! (1991) was the first independent demo cassette by the Bikini Kill. The group released the Bikini Kill EP on the indie label Kill Rock Stars later.
Some of the other discographies by the Bikini Kill are, “Pussy Whipped” in 1993 (debut album), split album; Our Troubled Youth -Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, Reject All American (1996), and The Singles (1998). The band toured all over the U.S. and England. Bikini Kill disbanded in 1997, after which in 1998, a compilation of singles recorded between 1993 and 1995 got released entitled The Singles.
Bikini Kill reunited in 2019 after all the members joined and left several other bands. The band performed again together at a book-release concert. This concert was followed by several announcements from Bikini Kill about its four U.S shows, two European shows, and for the 2020 show at Olympia's Capitol Theater.
